NJ man kills 74-year-old, steals her car and debit card, police say

A man entered a 74-year-old woman’s home and killed her before taking off with her car and bank cards, authorities claimed.

Kishan, S. Seth, 21, of Newark, was arrested Tuesday and charged with various crimes, including murder, weapons offenses, first-degree home invasion and multiple counts of theft and disturbing, moving or concealing human remains, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said . .

Seth is accused of entering Rita Acharya’s home, located on East Ridgewood Avenue in suburban Paramus, and causing her death by strangling and stabbing her.

Prosecutors also allege he tried to cover up the crime before grabbing her debit card and leaving in her vehicle.

Police conducted a welfare check at Acharya’s home at 4:08 p.m. Monday and found her body on a couch, officials said. The authorities have not disclosed what day the murder took place.

Prosecutors say Seth was an acquaintance of the victim.

He is now in custody at the Bergen County Jail awaiting bond.
