Elite QB Julian Lewis commits to Colorado Buffaloes

Carrollton (Ga.) four-star quarterback Julian Lewis has committed to Colorado.

He chose the Buffaloes after reneging on a long-standing promise to USC on November 17. Those who Auburn, Georgia, Alabama and Indiana also featured on the 6-foot signal caller at various times this year.

Lewis is no. 36 overall view and no. 7 QB in the 2025 cycle, according to On3 Industry rankinga weighted average utilizing all four major recruiting media companies. He is also ranked No. 5 in Georgia.

Once again CU head coach Deion Sanders has pulled off a monumental recruiting win just before the early signing period. The Buffs brought Lewis to campus four times this year, but began to really take off in late October after he logged a game visit to Boulder.

Several factors helped Colorado stand out in Lewis contests down the stretch. The plan to be a successful QB on and off the field in Boulder has been shelved Shedeur Sanders – who will not return next season. The chance to make an immediate impact is also on the table for Lewis.

He now leads a lean high school recruiting class for Deion Sanders and Co. After a long push, the Buffaloes have landed who they hope will be their QB of the future.

“It’s a huge opportunity! What Coach Prime has been able to build in two seasons cannot be denied. I have had a chance to get to know him and believe that he can further develop me into the player and person that I want to be,” Lewis said in a statement. “Coach Shurmur has been an offensive coordinator and head coach in the NFL, so he understands exactly what is needed at the next level. Coach Prime is going to play the best player, whether it’s a rookie or a walk-on. ”

Julian Lewis scouting summary

On3’s scouting and rankings team writes this about Lewis as a prospect.

“Polished, productive signal caller with skills as an accurate distributor. Measured at 6-foot, 186 pounds with a 9 ⅜-inch hand in the On3 Elite Series prior to his senior season. Has been a touted prospect for some time, and has been offered in middle school. Was originally a member of the 2026 cycle before reclassifying to 2025. A productive and efficient passer while playing in a high classification. Completed 66.4% of his passes for 3,094 yards (11.1 yards per attempt) and 48 touchdowns against two interceptions as a junior. Technically polished and able to replicate his exaggerated throwing motion with consistency. Shows the ability to place passes without much variation in placement. Quick and decisive decision maker. Dangerous when working above the center of the field on RPOs. Effective for working outside play. Works at a high level in a clean pocket. Plays in an offense that often relies on the quick passing game.

“Youngest top quarterback prospect in the 2025 cycle, turning 17 a month into his senior season. Not physically imposing at this stage and arm strength records on the lower end among highly rated peers at the position after reclassification. Primarily an in-structure quarterback – needs to improve his ability as a rusher (zero rushing touchdowns through two varsity seasons) and improvise against pressure in addition to size and play strength to hold up against contact in the pocket. A skilled, high-end passer whose ultimate ceiling will be determined by the degree of his physical growth and improvement in athleticism and movement skills.”
