Shaboozey performs ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ at the 2024 CMA Awards

The 2024 CMA Awards crowd wasn’t afraid to get tipsy, courtesy of Shaboozey.

At the 58th Annual Country Music Association Awards, Shaboozey, 29, performed a medley of his songs “Highway” and “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” to a rapturous crowd at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. “CMAs, can we turn this place into the greatest dive bar in the world?” he asked the audience before switching between songs.

Shaboozey, whose real name is Collins Chibueze, was nominated for New Artist of the Year and Single of the Year for “A Bar Song,” which was released in April. The song hit the number 1 spot on Billboard Hot 100 over the summer and he had the best response.

“HAPPY BAR SING DAY. TAKE A DOUBLE SHOT WHISKEY 4 ME!” Shaboozey issued in July to celebrate his achievement.

The “Let It Burn” singer told PEOPLE about his rapid rise to country stardom in June. “I’ve been making music for so long, I’ve spent a lot of time and years on it,” Shaboozey said at the time. “I put so much into it that I feel like it’s just cool to see it work. Everybody hopes it works. To see it actually work, it’s unreal.”

He also said that “it feels like a dream.” “It feels like I’m definitely going to wake up at some point and be like, ‘Damn, was that a dream?'”

Shaboozey also said that “you never know” and “you can’t know” if songs will be successful like “A Bar Song” did.

“You just put these songs out (hoping) that consistency will get you there,” he continued. “It’s about making the song and how people react to it. It’s cool just to see it actually work that way.”

The 58th Annual CMA Awards will air live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday, November 20 from 8pm to 11pm on ABC. The show will be streamed the following day on Hulu.
