Jay Leno recovers after falling downhill and hitting his head on a rock

Jay Leno is on the mend after falling down a big hill over the weekend, leaving him with an eye patch and a big bruise.

The former Show tonight host was asked about the accident by TMZ Monday, where he said he was staying at a hotel at the top of a hill and fell while walking to a nearby restaurant toward the bottom of the hill.

“To get there, I didn’t have a car, so you had to walk about a kilometer and a half around. I said, ‘Well, the hill doesn’t look that steep. It’s about 60 or 70 feet. Let me see if I can go down the hill,'” Leno explained, describing the fall that left him with a bruise covering half his face. “I fell down. Boom, boom, boom. I rolled down the hill, hit my head on a rock, poked my eye.”

The 74-year-old comedian added that he still continued to perform his show later that day at Yaamava’ Resort & Casino in Highland, California, and sought medical attention when he returned to Los Angeles.

“It’s not that big of a deal. It’s fine, it’s fine. … The great thing about this age (is) you don’t learn from your mistakes, you just keep doing the same stupid thing, Leno said, referring to his 2022 fire accident.

In November 2022, Jay Leno’s Garage star suffered third-degree burns in a garage fire. After the incident, he said his face caught fire while working on one of his vintage cars and had to spend several days at the Grossman Burn Center.

The following year he revealed to Las Vegas Review-Journal that he was knocked off his motorcycle and suffered various injuries as a result. Leno said at the time, when asked how he felt after the gas fire accident, “It’s so funny you should say that. That was the first accident. OK? So last week I got knocked off my motorcycle. So I have a broken collarbone. I have two broken ribs. I have two cracked kneecaps.”

The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Leno’s rep for further comment on his latest fall.
