It’s time for Basketball: Spurs vs Thunder

Welcome to the game thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies, we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.

The Spurs play their second NBA Cup game of the 2024-2025 season tonight against the conference-leading Oklahoma City Thunder. OKC lost Chet Holmgren to injury for at least two months with a broken hip after a hard fall on Nov. 10. This injury combined with injuries to their backup bigs forces the team to play smallball, which is indeed what they are. pretty good at.

Both the Spurs and Thunder are coming off losses to the Mavericks, but the Spurs have a slight rest advantage tonight, with two days off compared to OKC’s one. If Wembanyama is out again tonight with a knee contusion, Spurs won’t have their biggest advantage so it could be another tough night for the Silver and Black. Spur have shown the ability to beat good teams and lose to bad teams, so let’s hope they can handle the first scenario tonight.
