NBA star LaMelo Ball apologizes after being fined $100,000 for anti-gay rant

Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball has apologized for an anti-gay remark he made in a postgame interview over the weekend, insisting he “didn’t mean anything” by the comment. The 23-year-old was fined $100,000 after he was asked about the final play of a nail-biting Saturday game and replied: “We loaded up, no f—.” However, Ball insisted to reporters on Sunday that he had no intention of being offensive. “I really didn’t mean anything (by it) and don’t want to offend anybody. I have love for everybody and I don’t discriminate,” he said. Hornets rookie head coach Charles Lee told reporters he spoke with Ball and stressed that the language was uncharacteristic of him. “From what I’ve seen since I’ve been around him, he loves everyone. He is a joy to have around the facility and (the way he talks) is not typically how he operates,” Lee said. “He and I talked about the seriousness of the situation and how he should conduct himself going forward.”
