A Hawaii woman who has been missing since failing to board a connecting flight in Los Angeles sent “alarming” text messages before she disappeared, her family has said.

The family of Hannah Kobayashi, 30, who has been missing since Friday, November 8, said she felt “scared” by the text messages while she was staying in LA ahead of her scheduled connecting flight to New York City.

“Hannah’s last message to us was alarming – she mentioned feeling scared and that someone might be trying to steal her money and identity,” family member Larie Pidgeon wrote Facebook on November 14 “She has not been heard from since and we are deeply concerned for her safety.”

Pidgeon added that Hannah left Honolulu on Nov. 8 to embark on her trip to NYC, which she had been saving up for. As an aspiring photographer, she had planned to explore the art scene in the city, NBC News reported.

Fox affiliate KHON previously reported that Hannah left her home of Maui for LA on November 8th to board a connecting flight to NYC scheduled to land on November 9th.

Pidgeon told NBC News that Hannah’s last texts to her family were sent on Monday, Nov. 11. She added that some of the messages did not sound like they were written in her voice.

“She said that someone stole her identity, that she felt scared,” Pidgeon told NBC. KHNL of Honolulu before adding that Hannah’s aunt Geordan Montalvo had also tried to reach her.

“Her phone pinged at LAX at 4 p.m. and then Geordan kept trying to talk to her and then it got dark. Her phone went dead and her communication completely cut off,” she said.

In another text, sent to a friend of Hannah’s after she failed to board her connecting flight, she wrote: “I was tricked pretty much into giving away all my money to someone I thought I loved, ” KHNL reported.

“She texted her that she was scared and that she couldn’t come home or anything,” Hannah’s sister, Sydni Kobayashi, said. HawaiiNewsNow. “It was just really weird texts … it doesn’t sound like her, like there’s just something about it. So I wasn’t too sure. I don’t know if it’s her or if someone else was texting .”

Concerns about Hannah’s whereabouts have increased after a Facebook group called Help Us Find Hanna, which includes some family members, said she was seen with someone in security footage in the area of ​​Pico Boulevard and Hill Street in downtown Los Angeles, according to NBC News.

According to the family, Kobayashi’s last confirmed location was at LAX on November 11, KGMB/KHNL and KHON reported.

In a Nov. 15 email to PEOPLE, the Los Angeles Police Department said a missing persons report was filed.

Hannah’s cousin Emi Ko signed one GoFundMe set for her: “Her movements have been unclear, her phone has been switched off, and her family and friends have worked tirelessly to get back on her trail.”
