It’s back, Iowa. National Weather Service office in Des Moines posted on social media that chances of snow return to the state this week.

When is it going to snow in Iowa?

NWS Des Moines said snow chances begin Wednesday, Nov. 20, mainly concentrated in northern and northeastern Iowa. Snow amounts up to a dusting are possible, the NWS said, but the timing remains uncertain.

A mix of rain and snow is also expected in southeast Iowa on Wednesday as the system moves across the state. The NWS is expecting gusts of up to 40 mph.

What is the snow forecast in central Iowa?

The NWS wrote that central Iowa, along with the south and west, will most likely remain dry, but will still see colder temperatures.

Gusty winds will begin in central Iowa on Tuesday, with gusts over 30 mph possible. On Wednesday, those gusts will be sustained at 20 to 40 mph. In the middle of the week, the low temperatures will be between 20 and 30 degrees.

Will this be Iowa’s first snow of the season?

While central Iowa has yet to see much winter weather this season, some places in the state have already seen enough snow to bring out the plows.

Northwest Iowa saw light snow in Sheldon at the end of October.
