Pirates right-hander Paul Skenes won the National League Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year Award.

Only four players received votes, the fewest National League Rookie of the Year votes since the BBWAA went to a three-player ballot in 1980. The previous low had been five, in 2001, when Albert Pujols of St. Louis Cardinals won the pick and 1998 when Kerry Wood of the Chicago Cubs was the winner. The lowest number of votes a player received was three in the 1983 American League election, won by Ron Kittle of the Chicago White Sox.

Skenes is only the second Pirate winner of this award. The only other was outfielder Jason Bay in 2004, when the Pirates became the last pre-expansion franchise with a Rookie of the Year winner.

Skenes, the 24th pitcher to win the NL Rookie of the Year Award, and Jackson Merrill of the Padres were named on every ballot.

Ballots were cast before the postseason games. They are arranged in a system that rewards five points for first place, three points for second place and one point for third place.
