NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – NOPD is investigating two shootings in St. Roch on Sunday afternoon (November 17), leaving 10 people injured and two dead.

The first incident occurred at approximately 3:38 PM in the 1800 block of Almonaster Avenue.

The NOPD says officers assigned to another line reported hearing gunshots and responded to find eight victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

All were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

About 45 minutes later, officers responded to another shooting at the intersection of Almonaster and Florida Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers found two victims at the scene. One was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was taken to a hospital where they were later pronounced dead.

The NOPD shut down the second line event as part of the investigation. Police stressed that the investigation is in its early stages, with detectives working to identify suspects, establish a motive and gather additional information.

The shootings have drawn reactions from state leaders. Governor Jeff Landry tweeted: “A tragic scene in the St. Roch neighborhood tonight. Sharon and I are praying for all involved and we are grateful to the first responders who rushed to the scene. The violence must stop.”
