Mel Gibson, 68, seen for first time since slapping Kamala Harris as he films movie in Atlanta

Mel Gibson was seen in public for the first time since he harshly criticized Kamala Harris as ‘low IQ’ just weeks before her election defeat.

The 68-year-old Oscar winner was in character on the Atlanta set of his upcoming thriller Mermaid on Thursday.

He was wearing a navy blue long-sleeved shirt, faded jeans and a baseball cap, with a knife strapped to his hip as he entered a gun store.

In Mermaid, the Australian star portrays an ‘overprotective father’ who, along with his 12-year-old daughter, takes in a mysterious young woman found along a riverbank, leading to a tense series of events, according to a press release.

These set of photos come on the heels of Gibson’s recent and unfiltered on-camera remarks about the Democratic presidential nominee.

On Oct. 24, the Braveheart star and devout Catholic was spotted at LAX laughing off a question about who he was voting for in 2024.

‘Oh man, that’s a big question. I don’t think it will surprise anyone who I vote for, he told TMZ in a rare public spotting.

After confirming Trump was a “pretty good guess,” he suggested he knew “what it would be like if we let her in,” referring to Harris.

“It’s not good: lousy track record, appalling track record, no policies to speak of, and she has the IQ of a fence post,” Gibson said.

Gibson has been critical of both major political parties throughout his career. He said he did not vote for any of the major candidates in 2016.

The 68-year-old actor called Bill Clinton a ‘low-level opportunist’ in the 1990s and was vocal against George W. Bush’s wars in the Middle East in the 2000s.

In 2016, however, he said he did not vote for Trump or Hillary Clinton.

In 2021, Gibson saluted Donald Trump in the crowds at Saturday’s UFC fight between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor.

The Hollywood actor and director acknowledged the former US president as he walked past surrounded by his bodyguards at UFC 264 in Las Vegas.

The actor has previously faced a barrage of criticism after a series of anti-Semitic comments throughout his career.

He was criticized after the release of his film The Passion Of The Christ in 2004, which was controversial for its bloody violence and alleged anti-Semitism.

In 2010, Winona Ryder claimed that Gibson referred to her as an ‘oven dodger’ in reference to her Jewish background. Gibson’s rep said the claims were ‘100% false’.

Gibson faced significant backlash after his recorded anti-Semitic tirade during his 2006 arrest in Malibu.

He later issued an apology, claiming there was ‘no excuse’ for his behavior and specifically expressing regret to ‘the Jewish community for the vicious and hurtful words’.

In 2016, he told Black that his offensive comments were ‘illegally recorded by an unscrupulous police officer’ during his arrest.

He added: ‘Ten years have passed. I feel good. I’m sober, all that kind of stuff, and for me it’s a dark thing in the past’.

‘But others are bringing it up, which I find annoying, because I don’t understand why after 10 years it’s a problem.’

The Braveheart star emphasized that he does not discriminate and believes he should not be judged for the reprehensible comments he made while under the influence.

It was also noted in the police report that at one point Mel noticed a female officer and yelled at her: ‘What do you think you’re looking at, sugar t*ts?’

In his letter of apology to Anti-Defamation Leaguehe wrote: ‘There is no excuse, nor should there be any tolerance, for anyone who thinks or expresses any kind of anti-Semitic remark.

‘I want to specifically apologize to everyone in the Jewish community for the mean and hurtful words that I said to a law enforcement officer the night I was arrested on a DUI charge.’
