Anthony Edwards fined $35,000 for giving fans the middle finger during Timberwolves’ win vs. Kings

Anthony Edwards was the Minnesota Timberwolves’ hero in Friday’s win over the Sacramento Kings, but the star guard was later fined $35,000 for making an “obscene gesture” toward a fan during that game, the NBA announced Sunday.

Edwards, 23, raised his middle finger to a fan in the Golden 1 Center crowd after being called for a charge with 3 minutes, 15 seconds left in the first quarter. The Timberwolves went on to win 130-126 in overtime thanks to Edwards’ game-sealing jumper.

He had 36 points with five rebounds and two assists in the NBA Cup contest in the group stage.

The fine is not the first in Edwards’ career, as the young guard was fined $40,000 for criticizing officials in January, $50,000 for “recklessly swinging a chair” in the 2023 playoffs and $40,000 for using an anti-gay slur in a video , which was posted. to Instagram in September 2022.

Edwards has also been known to use profanity when talking to the media, which happened Friday when Edwards was asked on a broadcast about the win, calling it “super important, man.” He also swore during a post-match locker room interview, although no fines have been announced for his use of profanity in those instances.

The Timberwolves are 7-6 and next host the Phoenix Suns (9-4) at 3:30 PM (ET) on Sunday. Their next NBA Cup group game is against the Houston Rockets on November 26.
