Arthur Smith tells teams about Justin Fields package: ‘It will be ready’

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have been tossing around a Justin Fields package for weeks since the fourth-year quarterback was benched for the returning Russell Wilson.

However, the Steelers have yet to unleash the package, even though it has been hanging over the heads of every opponent. They have had to spend time game planning for the possibility that Fields would come up for a play or two.

On Thursday, offensive coordinator Arthur Smith was asked about the deception of having that package and revealed that the Steelers are working on a package every week, but it just hasn’t been the right time to release it. When they use it, they feel confident that it will work.

“It will be ready to go when we need it. Maybe it will be this Sunday, maybe it will be next Sunday. I’m very confident that when we break it out, it will make a difference,” Smith said .

The hamstring injury hampered the Steelers’ ability to use him if they wanted to for a week or two, but Fields is fully healthy now. So if the Steelers want to use Fields in a package against the Baltimore Ravens or any other team, that could be something they pull out to boost the offense at any given time.
