Donnarumma out of Italy vs France, Vicario takes over gloves

Gianluigi Donnarumma is reportedly out of tonight’s Nations League game between Italy and France, so Guglielmo Vicario should start.

It kicks off at the San Siro at 19:45 GMT and is the last group game, a head-to-head for the top spot and therefore top seed status in the draw for the quarter-finals.

Donnarumma had been ready to start in goal and wear the captain’s armband as the player with the most senior internationals in the starting XI.

However, Sky Sport Italia report that the shot stopper from Paris Saint-Germain has been affected by a stomach bug today and is therefore not at risk.

Instead, Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Vicario steps in to take the gloves against France.

The 28-year-old has just three senior caps for Italy, which he earned in friendlies against Ecuador and Turkey in March and June 2024, then the 4-1 Nations League win over Israel on 14 October.
