After arriving at the hospital, the singer’s wife Misty shared an update via Head’s Facebook account, saying she finally “physically laid eyes on him and heard his sweet voice.”

“He is in good spirits considering the last several hours. Children are with him now. Prayers were answered as there was no internal damage from the bullet. Thank you all for the prayers,” she said before elaborating, what happened.

According to Misty, Head had been alone at the ranch when the incident happened.

“It was not his hunting rifle and no one shot him. He was out of the vehicle and reaching for his .22 when he grabbed it. The .22 came out of its holster and hit the outside of The Jeep just went off. Sundance said it happened so fast and he could see the bullet shift, she wrote.

Misty clarified that Head “didn’t” call 911, even though she initially thought he did.

The country singer had forgotten his phone, “so he went down the driveway to the main road to flag down a car for help,” according to the Facebook post. “10 cars later someone turned around to help and called 911. Now this is what he has told me … he is heavily medicated at the moment. He is so lucky and grateful to be alive.”

Misty shared with fans that the bullet “entered above his belly button and lodged in his abdominal wall,” missing “every vital organ.”

“He won’t need surgery as they won’t remove the bullet,” she continued. “I’m sure (his doctor) said why, but my head is in a fog right now. It was a good thing he was on the bigger side. The bullet is in his fatty tissue.”

Earlier in the evening, Misty told PEOPLE in a statement, “We appreciate all the prayers and will update everyone soon when we have more information.”
