Texas A&M (8-2, 5-1 SEC) took care of business in front of 105,815 fans at Kyle Field Saturday night against New Mexico State as the offense looked crisp for most of the first half with quarterback Marcel Reed under center, but on the first play without star running back Le’Veon Moss, junior RB Amari Daniels was benched after running for a 71-yard touchdown to keep him healthy down the stretch.

This was always going to be a “get real game” after A&M’s 44-20 loss to South Carolina in Week 10, knowing Marcel Reed would be in shotgun formation at a higher speed to (hopefully) gain rhythm in the passing game. While it was all pretty, the redshirt freshman finished 20-31 for 268 yards and two touchdowns, including a rushing touchdown on his final possession of the second half.

The positive surprise of the night was tight end Theo Melin Öhrström, who led the Aggies with five receptions for a career-high 111 yards, stretching the field while showing impressive athleticism. If this isn’t a fluke and a sign of Öhrström’s improvement, A&M’s passing may have found another weapon.

After the win, head coach Mike Elko, Marcel Reed and defensive lineman Albert Regis spoke. Here’s what both players had to say.
