Bob Jones High School Band to take the national stage

MADISON CO., Ala. (WAFF) – A local band takes to the national stage from 14-16. November to represent the state of Alabama.

The Bob Jones High School Marching Band will participate in the Bands of America Grand National Championship in Indianapolis, Indiana for the first time in school history. They are also the only band in Alabama competing this year.

Their show is called “Mama Always Said” as a dedication to the 30th birthday of Forrest Gump – who is famous in Alabama.

“The BJHS band is thrilled to embark on this historic journey and also to represent our great state of Alabama by performing a show that references one of its most famous cinematic characters,” a press release read.

Band Director Leigh Thomas said the opportunity for the band to play is nothing but rewarding for her students.

“These are bands from all over the country, a lot of them from Ohio, Indiana, and then a few from Texas,” Thomas said. “Schools 2-3 times by Bob Jones – so just going is a reward in itself.

The band leaves for Indiana on Thursday morning.
