Comedy icon Sir Lenny Henry discusses ‘regrets’ as he admits people need to ‘move on’ | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Comedy icon Sir Lenny Henry has expressed his regret despite enjoying a long and successful career in the world of comedy. He appeared on ITV’s This Morning on Thursday 14 November to promote his new TV series, Legends of Comedy With Lenny Henry.

The four-part Channel 4 show sees him explore the careers and inspirations of his comic idols. Chatting to This Morning hosts Cat Deeley and Dermot O’Leary, he discussed how the comedy landscape has evolved over time and how what was once considered acceptable in comedy no longer is.

Sir Lenny, who rose to stardom after appearing on TV show New Faces as a teenager in the 70s, said: “I started as a 16-year-old copying people I’d seen on TV, so I told racists. jokes about myself, and when I see it now, I go, I wish I hadn’t the.

“But actually, if wishes were horses, beggars would rise, so now you have to learn from the mistakes you’ve made and move forward into the future and try to have better role models,” reports the mirror.

In his latest TV series, which starts on Saturday 16 November, Sir Lenny takes inspiration from comedy role models and interviews the likes of Paul Whitehouse, Sally Phillips, Romesh Ranganathan and Alexei Sayle.

The series begins with a profile on Whitehouse and also features some of his favorite comedies from other creators including The Royle Family, Alan Partridge, Catherine Tate and Victoria Wood.

Thursday’s edition of This Morning also saw a discussion about the 2024 John Lewis Christmas advert. An emotional Dermot O’Leary admitted “I cried” as she watched the poignant two-minute clip, titled The Gifting Hour, which captures the last-minute Christmas shopping frenzy as a woman searches for the perfect gift for her sister.

This year marks the first in the 17-year history of iconic John Lewis Christmas tales by featuring one of its 34 stores, specifically the flagship on Oxford Street, which was transformed following a multi-million pound refurbishment earlier this year. The filming took place during a night shoot last October.

Appropriately placed in the festively decorated department store, Saatchi & Saatchi-produced advertisements highlight Sally’s race against time to find that special gift.

This Morning is on ITV1 weekdays at 10 and on ITVX
