The area’s largest parade, Montgomery County’s annual Thanksgiving Parade, returns this Saturday with marching bands, floats and all sorts of fun surprises.

7News’ First Alert Weather Meteorologist Eileen Whelan and reporter John Gonzalez will host this year’s parade.

The festivities begin at 10 a.m

Roadblocks and parking

The northbound and southbound lanes of Georgia Avenue, from East-West Highway to Colesville Road, will close at 06:00 and reopens at the end of the parade, around 1 p.m. Traffic should detour to the East-West Highway.

The following roads will be closed on Saturday 16 November from 06.00 to 13.00:

  • North and Southbound Georgia Ave. between East-West Highway and Colesville Road.
  • Cedar Avenue between Colesville Road and Wayne Avenue.
  • Pershing Drive from Cedar Avenue to Veterans Place.
  • Veterans Place from Pershing to Ellsworth Drive.
  • Ellsworth Drive from Georgia to Cedar Avenues.
  • Roeder Road from Fenton Street to Cedar Avenue.
  • Fenton St. from Cameron St. to Wayne Avenue.
  • Wayne Avenue from Georgia Ave. to Fenton Street.
  • Boniface St. from Georgia Ave. to Fenton Street.
  • Thayer Ave. from Georgia Ave. to Fenton Street.
  • Silver Spring Ave. from Georgia Ave. to Fenton Street.

The Town Center public parking garage at Ellsworth Drive closes at 2 a.m. Saturday morning, and the garage on Wayne Avenue also closes at 8:00 a.m. The garages open again at 2 p.m.

The organizers encourage those present to take the metro. The closest stop is the Red Line at the Silver Spring station.

Free parking will be available in the public garages including Sligo Avenue Garage, Cameron Street Garage and Bonifant Street Garage next to Metro.
