PA GAMES COMMISSION ISSUES REMINDER ABOUT SUNDAY HUNT

Pennsylvania Game Commission officials are hopeful Sunday hunting restrictions will be lifted next year.

For the next three Sundays, hunting will be allowed on anything that is in season. That means this Sunday, archers can hunt deer and bear in Game Management Units 2B (Allegheny County Area), 5B (York, Lancaster and Lebanon Area), 5C (Lehigh and Berks) and 5D (Delaware and Philadelphia Counties), and all hunters can go after squirrels, pheasants, rabbits, grouse and others that are in season right now. Next Sunday Bear season officially opens and the Sunday after that is rifle deer season. During these three Sundays, hunters on private land must bring written permission from the land owner. And while many are thinking about Thanksgiving turkey right now, hunters can’t hunt turkey or migratory birds for the next three Sundays.

Game Commission Communications Director Travis Lau said the bill to lift the ban on Sunday hunting passed the State House in June but remained in the Senate until the session ended. The bill must be reintroduced at the next legislative session, which starts in the new year.
