Netflix backs up most US users after outage, Downdetector shows

(Reuters) – Video streaming platform Netflix was back on Saturday after a power outage that lasted about six hours in the United States, according to fallout tracking website Downdetector.com.

Downdetector, which aggregates status reports from a variety of sources, found that there were fewer than 100 user reports of problems accessing Netflix from 5 a.m. ET (1000 GMT).

On top of the blackout, which began Friday, there were more than 90,000 reports of problems with Netflix, according to Downdetector, on the night viewers tuned in to watch a highly anticipated boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, which Paul won.

Netflix said it had no immediate comment in response to a request from Reuters.

The platform has previously been subject to interruptions during live or highly anticipated events, where increases in user traffic have often contributed.

Last April, it experienced a brief outage during a live stream of dating reality show Love is Blind, drawing complaints from thousands of users.
