Paul Mescal has an unusual plan if Gladiator 2 makes him ‘too famous’ – Celebrity

Paul Mescal is already a pretty famous guy, but he has a contingency plan in place if his role in the soon-to-be-released film Gladiator 2 meaning he can hardly walk down a street without being recognised.

Yes, it won’t be long at all now before the sequel to the epic film set in Roman times will hit the cinema screens, and if it’s anywhere near as popular as the first, then the Irish actor will get quite a lot of attention.

Gladiator 2 has Mescal as Lucius Verus, the kid from the first film who ends up becoming a gladiator himself and must fight for the amusement of the people of Rome.

The trailers for the film have been picked on by some historians for inaccuracies, although director Ridley Scott’s attitude to historians who point out the inaccurate parts of his film is of course to ask them how they would know if they weren’t there.

Still, here you are not too spot on historical accuracy, you get your ticket to Gladiator 2 to see Mescal and Pedro Pascal have a big sweaty fight in the Coliseum.

As for all the fame that may well come with appearing in a potential blockbuster, Mescal has a cunning plan to shed it should the film make him ‘too famous’.

Chat with The Times prior to the publication of Gladiator 2the actor said he wasn’t sure how much the film would change his life, but that he would “be deeply depressed” if the only real difference was that he was constantly stopped on the street.

He said: “I don’t know what the difference will be.

“Maybe it’s naive? Is it just that more people want to stop you on the street? I’d be deeply depressed if that’s the case.

“If the movie affects my life like that, I’m going to be in a bad place, I’m going to have to go ahead and make a stupid piece that nobody wants to see.”

One would hope that the film’s success would change his life in more positive ways, perhaps opening up more opportunities for him and letting him choose some interesting projects.

On the other hand, even if he tries to ‘make a blunt play that nobody wants to see’, it is possible that people will show up, an informal poll at LADbible Towers indicated that a number of people who did not see the first Gladiator and don’t think about the Roman Empire on a daily basis planning to see the sequel just because Mescal is in it.

Gladiator 2 stars Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal recently sat down with LADbible and put their knowledge of each other to the test ahead of the film’s release.

It turns out that Mescal is a very competitive guy, as he pointed out that he hasn’t actually lost one of our challenges yet, so he ended up winning.

However, he took home the biggest prize of all in the form of his co-star Pascal’s love, something anyone would be lucky to have.

Gladiator 2 opens in UK cinemas on 15 November.
