Uruguay host Colombia on Friday as CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying continues with a high-profile clash in Montevideo.

The match will be a rematch of an ill-fated 2024 Copa América semi-final which Colombia won 1-0 before a massive brawl broke out in the stands between Colombian fans and Uruguayan players.

That incident led to several key Uruguay players being hit with suspensions, which has been part of the reason La Celeste have stumbled badly since the Copa América.

Uruguay have not scored a single goal in four qualifiers in September and October, although they have at least managed three points by securing three 0-0 draws.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side are still third in the standings, but just three points ahead of Paraguay in the sixth and final automatic qualification position.

Colombia go into this match three points better off in second place, having lost their first match of this qualification cycle last month, going down 1-0 against Bolivia at the extreme altitude of El Alto.

Néstor Lorenzo’s side bounced back with a 4-0 thrashing of Chile in Barranquilla, keeping them on course for qualification for the World Cup in North America.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the game.
