NYC pols demand Whoopi Goldberg apologizes for fake Staten Island bakery slam — as store flooded with orders

Staten Island leaders demanded that Whoopi Goldberg apologize for falsely claiming a Big Apple bakery refused to serve her sweets because of her left-leaning politics — as the family-run business was inundated with orders.

“The View” co-host sparked widespread outrage this week when she claimed that beloved 145-year-old Holtermann’s Bakery in Staten Island refused to make her a batch of Charlotte Russe desserts because of her political beliefs.

“Recently someone took to the national airwaves and, frankly, slandered this family business,” City Council President Vito Fossella said at a press conference held outside the bakery Friday.

“We are here to stand up for one of the best families and businesses not only in Staten Island, but in the country.

“Honestly, the people who slandered the Holtermann family should apologize … for making things that suit their needs. Not everyone wakes up every day thinking about politics,” he added.

The bakery has insisted they were having mechanical problems with their 60-year-old kettle when Goldberg initially tried to place the order on November 13 so she could celebrate her 69th.th birthday in the air – and that her political beliefs had nothing to do with it.

Now, in the wake of Goldberg’s disparaging remarks, owner Jill Holtermann said they’ve been inundated with orders from across the country.

“I’m really overwhelmed,” Holtermann told The Post. “I’m so happy to have the support. Just to get people to come out and talk and build my business.”

The owner said she’s had people call from as far away as Alabama and Tennessee to donate baked goods orders to nearby schools and first responders in an effort to drum up business.

“We had someone today donate $150 worth of donuts,” Holtermann said, adding that the treats were sent over to St. Peter’s Boys’ High School for a football match.

“Another called and donated a cake – it went to a firehouse. The other was cupcakes, they went to PS 37.”

A steady stream of customers wrapped around the bakery on Thursday and Friday as people flocked to support the business.

“Judging by the line today, I think the one simple message is: You don’t mess with Staten Island,” Fossella said.

The commotion unfolded when Goldberg first blasted the bakery during Wednesday’s broadcast.

“Now let me tell you, Charlotte Russe has no political views and the place that made these refused to make them for me,” the liberal-leaning host claimed to his audience without revealing the name of the bakery.

“They said their furnaces had broken down, all kinds of things, but people went and got them anyway, and that’s why I won’t tell you who made them.”

“They didn’t like my politics,” Goldberg added.

Goldberg — and the rest of her “The View” co-hosts — have been in full meltdown ever since President-elect Donald Trump won the election.

The host has never shied away from her disdain for Trump — even going so far as to refuse to say his name on air for years.
