Ariana Grande gave her Glinda-fixated take on this controversial trend

It’s a *bubble* peplum… get it?

Another day, another Evil premiere, another bubblegum pink, method dressing moment from Ariana Grande. This time the premiere was in New York City, and the look featured the resurrection of a highly controversial Millennial trend: the peplum.

Grande’s latest Evil-inspired look was a light pink satin dress. It featured a sleeveless, corseted bodice with a sweetheart neckline and gathered bust paired with an elegant maxi skirt. The star of the show (or maybe the villain, depending on your take) was the bubble peplum detail around the hips.

The peplum has a checkered history – after experiencing a burst of popularity in the 2010s, it fell out of style. But in recent years it has been slow creeping back in a number of notable red carpet looks. Emma Stone wore, for example a similar silhouette for the 2024 Oscarswhile Kate Hudson donned her own satin peplum dress last month.

Grande’s take on the controversial trend is of course the Glinda version. Her peplum could also be described as a bubble skirt. And – you know – Glinda comes and goes from a bubble. Get it?

She completed the look with a silver choker necklace and wore her hair in a sleek bun.

This is just the latest in a long line of sartorial nods to the world of Oz in Grande’s Evil press tour so far. Earlier this month, she donned one dreamy pink ball gown at the Australian premiere in an apparent nod to her character’s iconic dress. And last week she wore one pink gingham dress that gave a nod to Dorothy’s famous costume i The Wizard of Oz.

At the premiere last night in New York, Grande was joined by other members of the cast, including Cynthia Erivo, who wore a black black dress, and Ethan Slater. Grande and Slater, who have been dating since the shooting of the musical, even had another sweet little moment of love on the carpet as they shared a sweet hug.
