Nashville Predators vs Edmonton Oilers Live Score: Highlights, Stats, TV Channel

The Nashville Predators are 2-for-2 in getting a point to start the road trip, but 0-for-2 in securing the win.

Edmonton’s Darnell Nurse scored at 2:32 of overtime off a spinning Connor McDavid pass to lift the Oilers past the Predators 3-2 at Rogers Place on Thursday.

Cole Smith’s goal at 17:12 of the third period tied the game after the Oilers had dominated throughout the second and third periods.

Scott Wedgewood, who had a handful of key saves as the Oilers led 2-1, finished with 31 saves.

Nashville took the lead at 8:22 of the first period on a Michael McCarron tip off a Roman Josi shot that beat Edmonton goaltender Calvin Pickard. The Preds surged throughout the first period, but only led 1-0.

The city of Edmonton entered the second period during 4-on-4 play. Jonathan Marchessault’s dump-in didn’t go very far, and Darnell Nurse made a pass to Leon Draisaitl to set up a 2-on-1 where Draisaitl and McDavid charged toward Jeremy Lauzon. Draisaitl passed to McDavid for a one-timer to tie the game. The goal was McDavid’s 1,000th. career points, and he extends his point streak against Nashville to 15 games.

Less than three minutes later, the surging Oilers took the lead on a narrow goal by Nurse, his first of the season.

Edmonton had the upper hand throughout the second and third periods, but Smith’s goal stunned the Rogers Place crowd and gave Nashville a result.

Nashville’s schedule doesn’t get any easier as the Flames await a Friday game in Calgary. Juuse Saros is ready to be in net for that match, the second of the back-to-back.

Nurse now has two points tonight after getting the secondary assist on the first Edmonton goal.

A bad dump-in by Jonathan Marchessault in a 4-on-4 play turns into a 2-on-1 with Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid vs. Jeremy Lauzon, and Draisaitl passes to McDavid for the goal.

McDavid earns career points no. 1,000 on the target. Draisaitl gets another notch against Nashville. After a steady first period, it was not good from the Nashville Predators.

McDavid has been in the NHL for 10 seasons, with two seasons cut short by the COVID pandemic. What a career so far.

Nashville continues to lead 1-0, though the pace picked up in the final eight minutes of the first period. Scott Wedgewood and Calvin Pickard each had a handful of solid saves.

Edmonton has 50 seconds of power play time to start the second period and will be able to double up with the top power play.

Great goal to open the scoring and it comes on the Predators’ first recorded shot on goal of the game. Roman Josi shoots in the direction of Michael McCarron, who redirects the puck into the net. Calvin Pickard had to deal with a lot of traffic up front.

Edmonton had been on the front foot for most of the opening segment, but Nashville leads 1-0. Can the Preds settle?

Juuse Saros will have the night off with a game in Calgary on Friday, so Scott Wedgewood will start in goal against Edmonton’s Calvin Pickard.
