No. 2 Duke Falls to California in ACC quarterfinals

DURHAM, NC – No. 2 Duke men’s soccer fell to California 2-0 on Sunday night in the ACC quarterfinals, ending the Blue Devils ACC Tournament. Duke now awaits their NCAA Tournament schedule, which will be announced on November 18th.

California opened the scoring early in the game, serving a ball into the box before finding the back of the net for an own goal, 1-0. In the 17th minute, Arik Duncan scored from just in front of the six-yard box to double the lead, 2-0.

Duke generated 10 shots in the second half and four in the frame, but they were unable to find the back of the net, ending the ACC tournament.

HOW IT SEEN

• In the third minute of the game, California scored on an own goal by the Blue Devils, 1-0.
• Cal doubled their lead in the 17th minute when Arik Duncan scored – just in front of the six-yard box, 2-0.
• At the half, Duke led the shots 9-4, with a 2-1 shots-on-goal advantage, forcing the Golden Bears keeper to make two saves.
• Duke was able to generate 10 shots in the second half and four in the frame, but was unable to find the back of the net.

NOTES

• Drew Kerr, Colton Pleasants, and Kenan Hot led the shot totals for the Blue Devils, with three aside.
• Duke falls to 6-8-2 as the three-seed in the ACC Tournament and 23-32-6 overall.
