Maren Morris sat down with Kyle Meredith backstage at Bourbon and Beyond to talk about her Pause EPa fantastic reflection of life in motion. It’s been a whirlwind since Morris published Humble Questwhere the singer-songwriter makes bold changes in her career and life. As she told Meredith, “You’re going to have to sacrifice your old life to get to your new one.” Listen above or wherever you get your podcasts.

Morris described Pause as an appetizer of what’s to come, even as its emotional weight packs quite a punch. Standout “I Hope I Never Fall in Love” channels raw heartbreak, with Morris pushing his vocals to a gritty, soul-searing edge. “It needed that desperation and anger,” she said.

The EP’s title speaks to the moment: a break, but hardly a stop. Morris is deep in the creative process and balances new writing journeys with festival performances. “At the end of the day, I’m still an album girl,” she said, clearly inspired by the wave of powerful women dominating the charts. But she is in no hurry – this new chapter unfolds on her terms.

And if you’re wondering how Morris navigates the creative gray areas? When she realized a tune on Girl sounded like Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5,” she reached out with an offer to share publishing rights. Parton’s answer? Clean Dolly. “She declined,” Morris said, smiling. “But that’s the kind of writer-to-writer respect you have to have.” With PauseMorris proves she has a lot more to say – and she says it her way.
