NBA star Ja Morant called out for another gun gesture – as fans claim he ‘will never learn’ despite two bans

Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant has once again courted controversy following the team’s loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The point guard was sidelined for the Grizzlies’ 128-123 loss to LeBron James and the Lakers on Wednesday night with a hip injury.

However, he still managed to create a stir from the bench with the 25-year-old’s attention-grabbing actions.

Morant was seen appearing to make a pistol action at Anthony Davis with his hand while sitting on Memphis’ bench.

The gesture immediately raised eyebrows among NBA fans following Morant’s previous suspensions for gun-related incidents.

Furious NBA fans lashed out after the move, with many calling it “stupid” and calling Morant a “clown” on social media.

‘Yeah Morant shooting the gun fingers at AD is crazy. This man will never learn,’ one social media user wrote.

‘People don’t change. Only a matter of time,’ warned a second.

‘Bro can’t help himself,’ claimed a third, while another insisted: ‘Bro needs to lay it down.’

‘Bro just can’t control himself. Never learn, man, said another.

Meanwhile, one NBA fan called on Memphis to take action, claiming: ‘The Grizzlies need to pay somebody to just stand behind him and hit him in the back of the head when he does this shit.’

One appeared to be upset by Morant’s actions as they wrote: ‘It’s hard to watch, especially when he has so much potential. Hopefully he can turn it around soon.’

“Is there a way to bet on the likelihood of Ja Morant getting suspended again?” asked one fan, referring to Morant’s previous suspensions stemming from gun-related incidents.

On March 3, 2023, Morant flashed a gun in an Instagram Live video at Shotgun Willie’s, a strip club in Glendale, Colorado, following a loss to the Denver Nuggets.

The move sparked severe backlash when the NBA handed an eight-game suspension to Morant, who checked himself into a private counseling facility in Colorado.

But eight games were apparently not enough to send the message home. Just ten weeks later, Morant was caught in another gun-flashing incident.

This time, after not learning his lesson, Morant was caught brandishing the firearm in a car on friend Davonte Pack’s Instagram Live.

Once again Morant faced a setback, this time bigger than ever. It was the second such incident in three months, and the league took time to consider its punishment before Adam Silver landed on a 25-game suspension.

The NBA commissioner labeled Morant’s behavior as ‘alarming and disturbing’ and ‘reckless and irresponsible’ and noted that the star is a role model for many children.

The ban forced Morant to miss a large chunk to start the 2023–24 season, with the star finally returning on December 19, 2023.

But just a week later, he was charged with performing a weapons-related party after executing a dunk during an overtime victory.

Morant celebrated by extending both his arms and appearing to pull the trigger before moving his hands towards his head – as if holding something on his shoulder – sparking outrage on social media with users claiming that he imitated a gun.

He reposted a tweet claiming he was imitating LSU players who have performed a similar celebration after scoring a touchdown.

Since then, however, Morant has embraced his second chance and stayed out of controversy and headlines.

This season, Morant has averaged 20.6 points, 5 rebounds and 9.1 assists in eight games for the Grizzlies.
