Expected XI: Osho, Lookman and Osimhen start, Simon and Boniface out – Nigeria’s expected line-up against Benin

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are preparing for their critical 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda, Soccernet.ng reports.

Ahead of the clash, the interim head coach of the 2013 AFCON champions, Augustine Eguavoen, has selected a formidable list of established stars and promising new faces.

In a 3-4-3 system, here’s a closer look at the predicted line-up for the clash with Benin Republic, with the Super Eagles aiming to secure their AFCON qualification with a win.

Goalkeeper:

Stanley Nwabali has proven to be Nigeria’s reliable option and is expected to start between the posts. With his recent form at Chippa United, and even some desperate times for the Eagles, Nwabali gives the team confidence at the back.

Defense:

Captain William Troost-Ekong is likely to lead the defense and Gabriel Osho, who is set to make his debut, is expected to join him. Fulham defender Calvin Bassey also adds a strong, attacking presence to the back three.

Midfield:

Boavista defender Bruno Onyemaechi is expected to retain his position alongside Nottingham Forest defender Olaoluwa Aina, adding a strong, attacking presence on the flanks.

Wilfred Ndidi’s experience and defensive ability make him a likely starter, while Alex Iwobi in his attacking midfield role will look to provide creativity and link the midfield with the forward line.

Attack:

Ademola Lookman and Samuel Chukwueze are expected to bring pace and creativity to the wings and support the prolific Victor Osimhen up front. Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray, has been in sensational form and his goalscoring ability will be crucial in Nigeria’s efforts to break down Benin’s defence.

Expected starting XI:

Goalkeeper: Stanley Nwabali
Defenders: William Troost-Ekong, Gabriel Osho, Calvin Bassey
Midfielders: Ola Aina, Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, Bruno Onyemaechi
Extenders: Samuel Chukwueze, Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman
