Pamela Anderson shines in Vegas Drama

What happens if you stay in Vegas? That’s the question at the center of Gia Coppola’s “The Last Showgirl,” which has debuted its first trailer from Roadside Attractions. Set against the backdrop of Sin City, the film stars Pamela Anderson as Shelley, a veteran showgirl at a crossroads with her stage production on its last legs.

Kiernan Shipka, Brenda Song, Billie Lourd, Dave Bautista and Jamie Lee Curtis also star. Playing a waitress and confidant to Anderson’s character, Curtis delivers a performance that, as Peter Debruge, Variations chief film critic, described as a “force of nature”. Bautista plays Shelley’s manager and ex-lover, who brings the news of the end of her career. Shipka and Song play two fellow showgirls who move on to greener pastures. Lourd plays Anderson’s daughter, Hannah.

“The Last Showgirl” premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, where it received positive reviews and launched Anderson as a potential contender in this year’s Oscar race for best actress. Roadside is giving the film a limited release in LA on December 13th as an award-eligible play. The film will be in cinemas across the country on January 10.

The film marks Anderson’s first return to the big screen since she briefly revived her role as CJ Parker for the 2017 film reboot of “Baywatch.” At a TIFF press conference in September, Anderson said, “A lot of my career has been about physicality, and it’s been a journey, but it’s also been part of why I’ve kind of done this experiment with myself with just, you know, peeling it all back and remembering who I am not defined by what people do to me, but by what I do.”
