Craig Melvin is replacing Hoda Kotb on the ‘Today’ Show

“Today” has found its replacement for Hoda Kotb.

Craig Melvin takes over Kotb’s role on NBC’s daytime show.

Kotb, 60, shared the news on Thursday morning, while also confirming that her last day on the show is Friday, January 10.

“I’m beyond excited and grateful,” said Melvin, 45. “I’ve only enjoyed a lifetime of blessings, and this is the latest in a long line of blessings.”

Kotb told Melvin he was “literally made for this job.” She added: “You have all the things that this job needs. You are the right person for it.”

She also referred to her upcoming last day on the job as a “party day.”

Kotb has co-anchored the first two hours of “Today” alongside Savannah Guthrie, 52.

She also co-hosts the show at 10 a.m. “Today with Hoda and Jenna” with Jenna Bush Hager, 42. She previously co-hosted the show with Kathie Lee Gifford from 2008 until Gifford’s exit in 2019.

Melvin became an anchor on “Today” in August 2018. Five months later, he was named a permanent co-host of the show’s third hour alongside Al Roker, Sheinelle Jones and Dylan Dreyer.

Kotb announced his exit from “Today” after 26 years in September.

She shared the news personally with his co-anchors including Melvin and Bush Hager.

“I’ve spent 26 years at NBC,” she said. “I just turned 60 and it was such a monumental moment for me because I started thinking about that decade. I realized it was time for me to turn the page at 60 and try something new.”

“I decided this is the right time to move on,” Kotb said, adding that she wants to spend more time with her daughters, Haley, 7, and Hope, 5.

In a letter to the “Today” staff, Kotb said, “I’ve been weighing this decision for a while — Am I really ready? But my 60th birthday celebration at the Plaza felt like a shift. Like a massive, joyous YES, you are ! I saw it all so clearly: my broadcasting career has been more than meaningful, a new decade of my life is ahead, and now my daughters and my mother need and deserve a bigger share of my time pie.”

“I will miss you all desperately, but I am ready and excited,” she added.

In an interview with E! News last month, Kotb opened up about who she’d like to replace her on “Today.”

The person I want is someone who has beautiful chemistry with Jenna (Bush Hager),” she shared. “That’s all I want. Because it’s never about either anchor, it’s about what’s in between. So bring the chemistry.”
