MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -: Grab the rain gear if you’re going out tonight as wet weather moves across the area. Totals appear to be a tenth to a quarter inch to the west with a quarter to a half inch to the east. Nice weather returns for the end of the week before more active weather late this weekend and early next week. Gusts and a big pattern change look more likely towards the middle and end of next week. Stay tuned!

What’s coming…

A low pressure system moving northeast from Kansas will bring rain to southern Wisconsin tonight. It will take some time for the rain to begin as more dry air settles in, but by late evening the rain should reach the southern part of the state. Southeastern Wisconsin will likely see steady rainfall, with the heaviest amounts expected in the southeast and less in the northwest. On Thursday morning, the rain should move out and dry weather will return as high pressure takes over.

Looking ahead…

High pressure will keep things dry through Saturday with mild temperatures in the low to mid 50s, above normal for this time of year. There is a slight chance of rain late Sunday as a weather system moves in from Canada. The best chance for rain will be Sunday evening, but it looks like a minor event. Weather models show some uncertainty for next week, but more rain could come on Tuesday or Wednesday. The exact timing and amount of rain is still unclear, so we’ll have to keep an eye on it.
