It’s time for Basketball: Spurs vs Wizards

Welcome to the game thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies, we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.

This week’s ESPN power ratings ranked Washington Wizards in 30th place, which is as bad as it gets in the 30-team NBA. They’ve only beaten one team this year (the Hawks, twice) and would love to add another victim to the admittedly small pile they’ve amassed so far.

If the Spur were already a good team, this would be a scheduled win, but this is an inconsistent silver and black team that can beat good teams and let bad teams steal wins from them due to lack of intensity and uneven execution. The Spurs are still figuring out who they are, and a motivated team can take advantage of that.

Spurs still lack Jeremy Sochan’s ability to create attacks when play is not working, but with Devin Vassell back in the fold and with attacks from unexpected sources like Sandro Mamukelashvili, they have become a dangerous team. The thing is, there is danger in both directions, so let’s watch the game and see which team shows up tonight. If the Spurs keep the mistakes under control, this should be another win that would give San Antonio a 6-6 record and put them in play-in range, not that it matters this early in the season. Last season Spurs didn’t get their sixth win until January, so this year’s team is much better so far. Let’s watch and see how it goes.

Playing with Pounding the Rock:

Marilyn Dubinski, JR Wilco and Jacob Douglas will stream the game and interact with PTR readers on Playback. It’s just another way to enjoy the game, then join us there or in the discussion thread. Or do both.

Game Prediction:

Bilal Coulibaly and Alex Sarr will try to sneak into the Spurs dressing room after the game, but his teammates will stop them.

A final word:

Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
