Dan also mentioned the need to control spending and is concerned about the new sports complex.

“Our tax base is not the same as other communities and to be honest our taxes are already high enough. I have a son who lives in Calgary and his taxes are half of what mine are and his house is double very worth it.”

Meanwhile at the East End Curling Rink in Ward 4, Brittany commented on the need for whoever is elected to address homelessness.

“Just more understanding and compassion and just more resources that way,” she said.

While most of the voters we spoke to said they felt all the candidates did a good job getting their messages out, others like Matthew felt more could have been done.

“Besides their signs, like looking up, trying to find somebody, it was confusing. Like the only programming I got, mostly what I could find was stuff that was dropped off at my mailbox,” he said.

The polling stations are open until 20.00, and voters are reminded to bring their photo identification.

Together with the municipal and school boards, there are some big races in a number of rural municipalities (RM). In the RM of Buckland, Don Fyrk and Larry Eros are running for reeve.

Meanwhile in the RM of Prince Albert there are four reeve candidates and they are Eugene Matwishyn, Allan Sabuda, Tyrel Tait and Shane Wilkonson.

Before being elected MLA for Sask Rivers, Eric Schmalz was reeve for the RM of Prince Albert.
