Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s blockbuster Deadpool and Wolverine has officially ended its theater career. How did the box office go overall?

Rated R, Deadpool and Wolverine opened in theaters on July 26 and earned a whopping $211 million in its first Friday to Sunday frame. The film marked the debut of the two former 20th Century Fox Marvel characters in Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Also through a set of clever cameo appearances, several other Fox Marvel characters appeared Deadpool and Wolverine directed by director Shawn Levy.

While both releases are comfortably positioned in the home entertainment market, that doesn’t mean it is From the inside out 2 and Deadpool and Wolverine won’t be returning to theaters anytime soon to bolster their already huge box office numbers.

That’s because awards season is underway, and Inside Out 2 is up for a slew of Best Animated Feature nominations from critics and industry organizations, including the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.

After all, the first Inside Out movie from 2015 won an Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2015.

As such, Oscar-winning films tend to be re-released in theaters to capitalize on their awards success, giving audiences a chance to see them the way they were originally intended.

While Disney will certainly be putting their award season muscle behind them From the inside out 2also pushes the studio on Deadpool and Wolverine on the awards circuit – specifically for a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Hugh Jackman.

Depending on how the film does during awards season, that’s entirely within reason Deadpool and Wolverine could return to theaters if it has any success at the Oscars or other major movie awards parties.
