Govt. Lee, TN AG to investigate whether Tennesseans were discriminated against during relief efforts by FEMA

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Governor Bill Lee announced that he and Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti will investigate whether Tennesseans were discriminated against during emergency relief efforts by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Lee and Skrmetti’s investigation comes after FEMA said one of its employees advised her disaster relief team to avoid homes with signs supporting President-elect Donald Trump in Florida after Hurricane Milton.

A FEMA spokesman said the agency is “deeply troubled by the actions of this employee” and the incident is under investigation. The agency did not identify the employee but said she had been removed from her role.

Lee said he will work with the AG to determine whether any Tennesseans were discriminated against during the recent relief efforts apparently related to the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

“FEMA exists to serve all Americans, and these actions have eroded the people’s trust by failing to provide desperately needed relief to all survivors,” Lee said. “Americans should never have the government weaponize them. I work with @AGTennessee to seek answers and determine whether Tennesseans were discriminated against, and looks forward to President Trump taking swift action to remove partisan bureaucrats once he takes office.
