Dan Campbell locker room speech after win over Houston Texans

game

I guess Dan Campbell had a very different locker room speech planned.

In the locker room at NRG Stadium after the electric finish at it Detroit Lions beating the Houston Texans, 26-23, the head coach couldn’t contain his excitement.

“Man, that’s the definition of resilience,” Campbell said. “You guys just kept knocking away, didn’t you? We did what we had to do. And we just bought our time.”

Of the Lions’ defense, Campbell said, “It was outstanding, man. And we knew it was just a matter of time.”

Of the Lions’ offense, he said, “We’re going to get our points. (Kicker Jake) Bates, that was pretty huge, OK?”

“And I’ll just say it again. That’s what great teams do. That’s what great teams do,” Campbell continued. “Even when you have an off day. You find a way, man. You find a way and you want it to happen.

“That’s what you did today. That’s what you did.”

Campbell then presented three game balls. First, to defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.

Second to cornerback Carlton Davis III.

And third ball to, of course, Bates.

Finally, as usual, Campbell asks Goff to break it down.

“Hey, if it ain’t a f—–g lesson, it ain’t over till it’s over, it is what it is, boys. Way to f—–g fight all day,” Goff said. “We’re f—–g different than all 31 in this league, okay? Way to f—–g go,

“Win on three. One. Two. Three.”

Team: “Win.”

And it looks like I’m going to win one of my fantasy games this week thanks to Bates.

The Lions next host the Jacksonville Jaguars at 1 p.m. Sunday at Ford Field.
