Dozens of first responders battle blaze in Prospect Park

Dozens of first responders were in Prospect Park Friday night trying to contain a brush fire. The FDNY said it received the call after 1 p.m. 18.40 and came across the fire in the middle of the park near Nethermead.

About 60 firefighters and EMTs responded.

The fire department described the fire Friday night as the length of two football fields.

The fire unfolded as the city is under a fire weather warning. Mayor Eric Adams emphasized the urgent need for rain.

“I never thought we’d have to pray for rain, but we really need rain with all these leaves and the dry ground and trees. These brush fires, I think it’s the third one today,” Adams said.

The FDNY said crews would remain on scene overnight to fight the brush fire.

No injuries were reported on Friday evening.
