Dallas Cowboys have Trey Lance packages according to Jerry Jones

The Dallas Cowboys are going to play Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon and are extreme underdogs in their home building. Even with quarterback Dak Prescott under center this season, the Cowboys have been a mostly ineffective offense. Cooper Rush is set to start for him this week and for the foreseeable future, although many people think going with Trey Lance is the better overall option.

It appears the Cowboys plan to use Trey Lance at some point in the game or upcoming games. How do we know this though? Jerry Jones told us!

Jerry Jones appeared as standard Friday on 105.3 The Fan and was asked about the state of the quarterback position on the team. He specifically noted that there is a “window” for Lance and that there are “packages” that the team can deploy.

We’ve only seen Lance play in the preseason so far for the Cowboys, and while the results weren’t great through the air to say the least, he showed quite a bit of skill in terms of his ability as a runner.

Could we see the Cowboys bring Lance in for a moment or two and have him run something like a quarterback draw or RPO? Sounds like it’s a possibility. But that sort of thing seems extremely obvious in general, let alone with Jerry offering it up for the world to know, so there’s some risk and reward involved.

Some Cowboys fans have generally suggested that Dallas use Lance in the same way as New Orleans Saints have used Taysom Hill in the past. Whatever we end up seeing from Lance, it looks like it could happen as early as Sunday.

For what it’s worth, Jerry Jones also talked about the status of Dak Prescott and the topic of surgery related to his hamstring injury. He noted that part of the delay is Prescott wanting to try to play things through.

It was reported Wednesday that Prescott’s hamstring is partially torn and season-ending surgery may indeed be involved. Whether or not you believe Prescott is or isn’t qualified as a starter for this team, there are certainly many differing opinions, risking him in the name of making the playoffs is still a foolish endeavor. No one ever enjoys admitting a season is over, lost or anything like that, but the Cowboys have now made a seriously big financial investment in Prescott. Risking it for nothing makes little sense.
