Aldi recalls popular cheese for potential Listeria contamination

Savencia Cheese USA has issued a recall for its soft-ripened cheese because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled products include Brie and Camembert cheeses sold at several retailers, including Aldi and Market Basket.

The Listeria organism was found at the Lena, Illinois plant on the processing equipment, so only a select number of cheeses made at that facility are being recalled.

The Savencia cheese recalled Brie and Camembert cheeses were distributed to select regional stores in the United States, and retailers that sold the cheese are now pulling it from their shelves. You can identify the recalled cheese by looking at the UPC number and expiration date. The recalled cheeses include:

While Listeria organism was found in the processing plant, testing has found no contamination on the actual cheese. Savencia Cheese is issuing the recall out of an abundance of caution.

If you have the recalled cheese, you should not consume it. Instead, throw it away or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Anyone can be infected Listeria and it can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems – it can also lead to miscarriages or stillbirths among pregnant women. ONE Listeria infection can cause severe headache, stiffness, abdominal pain, nausea and diarrhea.
