Police situation closing I-10 near Tucson linked to overnight shooting in Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZ family) — Authorities in Arizona are responding to three separate scenes connected to a double shooting overnight in Phoenix, causing the closure of Interstate 10 in southern Arizona.

According to a lieutenant on the scene, Phoenix police responded to two people with gunshot wounds just before 1 p.m. 27th Avenue and McDowell Road.

Police determined that the man and woman were initially shot in a nearby home 51st Avenue and McDowell Road. They tried to drive themselves to the hospital, but ended up stopping near 27th Avenue to call 911.

The suspect fled the scene southbound on I-10, where Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers and police officers followed him to the Marana area, which is just north of Tucson.

Police said he is locked in a vehicle with a gun.

The barricade situation prompted authorities to close I-10 in both directions near Cortaro Road. It is unknown when the highway will reopen.
