RUMOR: Barry Keoghan’s The Joker Getting HBO Series Treatment

Via Marvelvision Podcast by means of WorldOfReel.comthe latter revealed a “scoop” about the next HBO series he will be a part of THE BATMAN SAGA. Disclosure: I know nothing about this podcast, but I know and trust it World of Reel.

According to one of the podcast’s hosts, the series will follow THE BATMAN: PART II and be the bridge to BATMAN: PART III – like THE PENGUIN in between THE BATMAN and PART II. And here’s the kicker: Apparently, Barry Keoghan will return as The Joker (or “Unnamed Arkham Inmate”) in it, and then be the main villain of PART III.

I reached out to a few folks with a couple who had no idea and a few said they heard it’s true. So that’s all I have as far as confirmation or calling BS on it. We know that Matt Reeves and his team are working on another HBO series (or two) that is a part of THE BATMAN SAGA and here’s what he recently said about it…

Yes. We’ve talked and it’s exciting because people are now embracing the show. My imagination is coming to life, which is very exciting, and HBO has been incredibly supportive from the beginning. Now it’s really, really exciting to see the show being embraced. We’ve talked about doing other shows. I wanted to make sure we didn’t do the origin story like so many of the other series have done. I think the idea of being able to put a lens on these characters is a really exciting idea. It’s about cities and their dysfunction and the world and its dysfunction, which is what Batman stories are about. They’re all about Gotham being a place that should be better. And you can have the experience of this almost novelistic epic crime, but you also just have these separate experiences. They have their own dramatic value. So Oz’s story is Oz’s story, and the idea is to do these other stories in the same way.

I’m one of those Batman fans who prefer to know as little about The Joker’s background and origins as possible. So I’m not sure what I think about a whole series ala THE PENGUIN centered around him. I’m also a little unsure about overdoing it with the character in the aftermath JOKER: FOIL en DEUX bombing – although the 2 have nothing to do with witching each other. To note, the “scooper” said he wasn’t sure if it was a Joker series or if it was a series in which The Joker would appear. I would probably prefer that.

With all that said, I trust Matt Reeves and co. hero, and if they have an idea and it involves the Joker, I’m in. Just make sure Lauren LeFranc is a part of it! – Bill “Jett” Ramey
