Garth Brooks’ legal team has filed a “petition” regarding the sexual assault case against the country icon.

According to Entertainment tonightthe Friends in low places the singer’s attorney filed to move the trial away from California Superior Court to federal court.

Legal expert Tre Lovell told the publication that the 62-year-old singer’s “advantages of going into federal court are a couple of things.”

“It is usually easier to seal records, and you usually get a faster trial date. Judges are also more amenable to dismissing a case,” Lovell added.

Brooks’ latest move coincides with recent allegations that he raped a makeup artist named Jane Roe, who previously worked for his wife, according to a claim filed in California state court on October 3, 2024.

The prosecutor worked for the country singer and his wife, Trisha Yearwood, before and during the time frame she says the abuse took place, adding that her financial distress made her an easy target for Brooks.

Brooks’ accuser claimed the singer raped and sexually assaulted her on separate occasions in 2019.

However, Brooks rubbished the claims hours later, labeling them a “hush money” shakedown.
