snow causes road delays, crashes

Snow across Colorado caused delays, crashes and road closures Thursday, according to Colorado Department of Transportation.

The National Weather Service predicted an extreme blizzard Friday and into Saturday across southern and southeastern Colorado with heavy, wet snow and high winds. Travel conditions in some areas were expected to be difficult to impossible. A travel advisory covered Interstate 70 east of Denver and I-25 south of Pueblo.

Snow impacts were expected along I-25 on Monument Hill and I-70 west of Denver to the Idaho Springs area Friday night into Saturday morning.

CDOT roadblocks Thursday included:

CDOT closed southbound Interstate 25 south of Pueblo, from mile marker 91 to the New Mexico state line, starting at 10:35 a.m. Only local traffic — Colorado City, Rye and Walsenburg residents — are allowed to proceed to those locations on I-25, CDOT officials said. I-25 was closed indefinitely.
