Galatasaray v Tottenham: Europa League – live | Europa League

Key events

62 minutes: I don’t see the 10 men turning it around.

Speaking of… Yilmaz shoots from 18 yards and Forster parries the ball straight into danger but a Spurs leg turns it behind before Icardi can finish.

Yunus Akgun then fires a shot towards the top corner which Forster does incredibly well to stop.

RED CARD! Lankshear

60 minutes: Displaced, Lankshear becomes incredibly frustrated, believing himself to be the victim, and then dives into Sara. It’s a booking and it’s his second of the match. On the upside, he makes the mistake next to the tunnel and doesn’t have far to go.

Share

58 minutes: I’m starting to find it quite embarrassing for the Premier League to see this Spurs trying to send it out from behind.

Lankshear gets his second chance of the game, spins inside the box but can’t produce enough power and Muslera falls on the ball.

Share

56 minutes: More terrible play at the back gives Icardi a chance but he can’t stretch far enough to connect with an Osimhen cross.

Not that he needs to worry, as Spurs are very willing to give the ball away seconds later and Icardi gets a shot away, only to see it blocked.

It’s almost three seconds later when Osimhen shoots from six yards, but Forster almost saves.

54 minutes: Much to his chagrin, Lankshear is booked for chest-bumping a Gala defender. He looks frustrated despite his goal.

Sara is now warned to withdraw Maddison, but Spurs made the most of it.

Share

52 minutes: Bentancur shows some wonderful skills in the center circle, but Lankshear can’t hold on to the subsequent pass.

Down at the other end, Osimhen lurks on the penalty spot and gets a free header from a Mertens cross, but sends it over.

Share

51 minutes: Yunus Akgun almost gets a second when he whips a half-cleared corner back into the goal, but it is turned away from Dragusin’s head.

Share

49 minutes: Kulusevski goes into the book for a foul on Osimhen. Forster is the latest to pull off a glorious blunder. He’s going to require a simple catch from the free-kick but drops the ball with no pressure, Gala has a few bites at the cherry but somehow Spurs manage.

I haven’t feared losing work to AI, but I suspect bots can cover this battle. ‘Spurs give the ball away, Gala shoots.

Share

47 minutes: Spurs are really cruel to send it out from the back resulting in Icardi having a good chance but he fires his shot over from inside the box.

Half time: Galatasaray 3-1 Tottenham

What a relentless 45 minutes. Spurs were the architects of their own downfall with some woeful attempts to pass out from the back, gifting Osimhen goals in the process after working hard to get back into the game.

Share

45+1 min: I have to watch Spurs pass the ball around the back through my fingers and I’m not even supporting them.

Share

45 minutes: Three minutes added.

Share

43 minutes: Spurs just love giving the ball away. Maddison has barely been involved so far and that needs to change.

Share

41 minutes: Osimhen is really good, isn’t he? I wonder if Manchester City would like someone to challenge Haaland in January…

Share

GOAL! It’s a wonderful cross from the right by Mertens to find Osimhen between two defenders, allowing the striker to power the ball into the corner.

39 minutes: It should be 3-1 after more useless passing from Spurs results in Osimhen being one-on-one with Forster, but the goalkeeper does well to save.

Share

38 minutes: Icardi is allowed to cut in from the left and aim for the far corner, but his shot is wild.

Spurs break down the other end but Son’s run down the wing is restricted by a clip of the ankles from Sanchez.

Share

36 minutes: VAR checks for a potential red card to Bissouma for a challenge on Icardi. It seems like a waste of time for everyone as it is hardly a reservation.

Share

34 minutes: Just to add, Dragusin was cautioned for a foul in the build-up to the goal. A glorious responsibility.

GOAL! What a stupid goal to give away. Davies passes the ball to his centre-back partner Dragusin, who opens his body out as he senses no danger, but he is immediately dispossessed by Icardi and then Mertens plays the ball through to Osimhen to finish. Dragusin doesn’t look convincing every time I see him.

30 minutes: NO TARGET! Muslera hits the ball downfield and Galatasaray hold it in the final third. Mertens cuts the ball over the defense to Osimhen in space so he can turn it home. The only problem is that he is a yard offside, much to his surprise.

Share

29 minutes: Osimhen takes the ball from a colleague and sends a dangerous cross along the six-yard line, but no one can get on the end of it.

Share

27 minutes: Gala has a corner to the right and it results in another corner. Sara swings it in, but it is cleared a front post by Porro.

Share

25 minutes: Sara beats the press and slips the ball through to Osimhen, who latches on to the pass inside the box, but Forster is equal to it and parries to the edge of the box, where Mertens is lurking. The Belgian cannot control his shot and sends the ball wide.

23 minutes: Bogdan Kotarlic emails: “The highest atmosphere at a football match for me was back in November 1988, Champions Cup, Red Star Belgrade-AC Milan. There were something like 90 thousand fans and everyone was shouting and screaming and waving their scarves. It was really crazy , I couldn’t hear my best friend who was standing next to me. Later in the match, with Red Star leading 1-0 and having one more man due to a red card for AC Milan’s Virdis, the match was stopped at because of heavy fog. Crazy atmosphere, I felt shaking all the time, and when the fog came in the middle of the second half, we didn’t know what was going on, the crowd was still noisy and the fog was very thick, so we didn’t know what that was happening on the field. Those were the days, real fans, proper football, some great players and a lot of memories.”
