Harris addresses supporters in concession speech after Trump’s victory

Various world leaders said today that they made their first calls to Trump after his election victory.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he had “an excellent call” with Trump and that he “wished him his historic landslide victory.”

“We agreed to maintain a close dialogue and promote our cooperation,” Zelenskyi phelp on X. “Strong and unwavering American leadership is essential to the world and to a just peace.”

Vance has said that Ukraine will most likely have to “cede some territory to the Russians” to end the war following Russia’s ongoing invasion. Trump and his team have made “America first” and increasing isolationism abroad a prominent part of their foreign policy pitch.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán too said on X that he had his first phone call with Trump since the election results.

“We have big plans for the future!” he said.

Orbán, a far-right leader whose critics have characterized him as an authoritarian, has maintained close ties to Trump over the years, even when Trump was out of office.

Separate Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on X that he called Trump to congratulate him “on his spectacular victory.”

“We look forward to working closely together once again to further strengthen India-US relations across technology, defence, energy, space and several other sectors,” Modi said.

Closer to home, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office said Trudeau congratulated Trump on winning a second term and spoke with him about “their shared interest in safe and reliable supply chains and addressing unfair trade practices in the global economy.”

In one declarationTrudeau said the United States and Canada have “the world’s most successful partnership.”

“We look forward to working with President-elect Trump and his administration, including on issues such as trade, investment and continental peace and security,” he added.

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the calls.
