Doctoral student at UTSA found dead in probable suicide incident

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) has confirmed the death of a PhD student, believed to be a suicide. This is the second such incident at the university since May.
In an email to faculty, staff and students, UTSA President Taylor Eighmy informed the campus community of the loss, saying, “It is with a heavy heart that I write to share that we have lost a member of our doctoral student body, likely by suicide.” He encouraged those affected to seek support and highlighted the availability of 24/7 wellness resources.

The incident took place at Bauerle Road Garage on the university campus. Police were called to the scene earlier this morning, and UTSA later issued a social media post confirming the death. “Information is still being gathered,” the post said, warning the community to avoid the area due to ongoing police activity: “Runners, there is police activity near the Bauerle Road Garage. Please avoid the area.”
Details surrounding the incident remain limited as authorities continue their investigation.
