We live in an age of instant gratification — push a button to order dinner and it’s delivered minutes later.

But we will wait longer tonight.

It will take time for us to find out who our next president will be.

HARRIS, TRUMP ENDS CAMPAIGN – NOW IT’S UP TO THE VOTERS AS ELECTION DAY 2024 BEGINS

This is one of the few nights when all Americans gather to await the results – and the excitement and fear is palpable.

This is the longest campaign in our history.

But people don’t live in history. They live here and now.

And they don’t look at demographic trends or analyzes the Federal Reserve’s report.

They live on their monthly bills and on their hopes and dreams for their lives and the future of their children and grandchildren.

Many people feel out of place and misunderstood. 74 percent of Americans believe we are moving in the wrong direction. It’s incredible – 74% of people hardly agree on the color of the sky anymore.

When you add a major political change and a gigantic gender gap, you have a huge disconnect at a time when bias has seeped into every crevice of our country.

At the same time, people experience news and information in ways that we don’t really fully understand.

Take pretty much any guy’s Twitter feed versus any woman’s TikTok following, and the views are markedly different. The effect of this is unknown.

But it won’t go back to the way it was when I got my sister Angie to get up and change the channel on the television.

We end the campaign with former President Trump more popular than he’s ever been. He resisted two assassination attempts. He has campaigned tirelessly and ruthlessly. It can work.

Vice President Kamala Harris has led cautiously and almost quietly, avoiding taking a stand and answering questions and inheriting a situation where Democrats left President Biden at a rapid clip. And it can work.
