Harris will not speak from Howard University as planned, calling it a night

Vice President Kamala Harris will not address supporters tonight from her alma mater in Washington, DC, as previously planned.

Harris campaign co-chairman Cedric Richmond spoke briefly to those gathered at Howard University in the early morning hours Wednesday, informing them that Harris would be speaking to constituents at the university on Wednesday. It was not made clear when exactly that would happen.

Despite the bleak outlook for the Democrats at that moment of the night, Richmond told those gathered in Howard there were “still votes to count”.

“We still have states that haven’t been called yet,” Richmond added. “We will continue overnight to fight to make sure that every vote is counted, that every voice has been spoken.”

Before Richmond spoke and informed the crowd that Harris would not be speaking as originally planned, videos began circulating online showing those gathered at Howard leaving the premises as the race’s momentum appeared to swing in favor of the Republicans.

Richmond’s indication that Harris would call it a night early came about an hour before the race was called for President-elect Donald Trump. Republicans also took back control of the Senate early Tuesday night, and it remains possible for the GOP to win a supermajority with enough wins in the House.
